The Using Of LED Flood Lights

The Using Of LED Flood Lights

This
short post is going to explore LED Flood Lights.

If you are
trying to find one of the most popular type of flood lights in the industry today then you should be impressed at the up-to-date lighting development which has been obtaining remarkable feedbacks from consumers; it is generally known as LED lights. LED which is short for light emitting diode has been widely used in many devices mainly as indicating lighting.

LED
flood lights have completely revolutionised outdoor lighting and have made LED the perfect lighting solution for any sort of outdoor weather condition. LED flood lights are more economical than a normal floodlight for the reason that it can save you energy up to 80% compared to a standard incandescent light. The life span of an LED lamp is evaluated to be 100,000 hours long and LEDs used in lighting can last up to 30,000 to 50,000 hours; you'd be burning out 2 or 3 or even more fluorescent lights just before an LED flood light will begin to flicker.Since an LED flood light will likely be utilized in the outdoors, it's fully maintenance free of charge. It is always prepared to make use of given that it powers on with just a press of a switch in comparison to some outdoor lighting that flickers before powering on. With an LED flood light, you will hardly ever need to sacrifice with lighting conditions, it may be as bright as a regular incandescent or halogen bulb but with less energy consumed.

An LED
flood light is an excellent investment seeing that it will make available to you years of usage unlike normal lighting that will flicker and fail following a year. Even on a foggy day, you would be able to be sure that an LED flood light will light up your garden without fail, it may also do the job in snow or sleet weather conditions.

When
browsing on the internet, you may be able to obtain the best value in LED flood lights. You will probably find web sites that are committed to introducing this modern lighting technologies to regular purchasers. You could be able to view an extensive gallery of LED lights and also flood lights and also read extensive info on how LEDs can do magic for your dwelling and enterprise.

The most
typical LED flood light could be the 100W assortment which is available in white, red, blue and green colors and RGB. You may be able to even get much more savings if you purchase by bulk for your dwelling or your business. With LED lights, you can efficiently illuminate any area for just a tiny proportion of the energy charges of a standard light bulb.

Other
floodlight types are the 20W, 40W, 30W 50W ,60W and etc option. You could be able to pick the ideal flood light depending on the size of your garden or the location that wants to be lit.

LED
lights has been creating superb reviews with regards to energy efficiency. Absolutely conventional lighting are not able to comparable to the power and lighting flexibility of an LED light. A growing number of house owners are using LEDs as their indoor and outdoor lighting source and it is likely that more and more people will do the exact same in the near future.

Benefits of LED Lights Replacement

This article talks about the benefits of LED lights compared with traditional lights such as incandecent and fluorescent lights. The advantages of LED lighting is not only it can save the electricity bills, but also it can save replacement and mantenence cost since it has much longer lifespan.

The foreseeable of home lighting will very soon be the vast distributed adopting and utilize of green energy-saving LED lights. Though the current market for  LED lights products is mainly  geared towards supporters and the pros, the upsides of LED lighting  will raise demand for more cost-effective LED lights. SSL (Solid-State-Lighting) is an interesting field and its been forecasted, that soon, energy-saving LED lighting products are going to be reliable and affordable sufficiently  to replace incandescent and fluorecent lights for common use in our homes, in public places, in car parking lots, in street lights, in outdoor signs, in super markets, in shopping malls and offices.

The working lifespan of current LED lamps is 100,000 hours theoretically. This will be more than 10  years of continuing running, or in another caculation, say 33.3% operation (that is 8 hours per day), 34 years of lifespan. The long operational life of an LED light is great advantage compared to an incandescent bulb or a fluorescent tube, which is approximately 4000-6000 hours.

When it comes to cost, it seems a little unfair to LED lights. Most people like to carry out some 1 on 1 comparison between the cost of LED lights and  traditional lights such as incandescents, fluorescents and halogen lamps. With incandescent lamps, the true and hidden cost is the electricity bills and the maintenance fee (including the replacement bulbs and the labour fee). When comes to the commercial sector, for example, for shopping malls, car parks, office buildings and highrises, maintenance costs for replacing the light bulbs or light  tubes, can be significant. While LED lights here could be a perfect solution.

As soon as developed efficiently, an LED circuit will probably come to 70-80% efficiency, that indicates 70-80% of the energy has been converted to light rather than other forms of energy such as heat.  While for incandescent bulbs, only 10- 20% of  electricity is used to generate light, at the same time, 80-90% of electric power has been wasted to generate heat. Take a simple example, say if I light up my room with a 100 Watt incandescent bulb (8 hours per day), and the electrical fee is 10cents/kilowatt hour,  then for 1 year, my electrical cost for this bulb would be $29 expense, but $23-$26 of this $29 will be spent  to heat the room, only $3-$6 is actually devoted to light the room. And if an efficient LED light is used, the energy fee would be only about $9-$11 yearly – 60%-70% saving on electricity  each year. Please have in mind that the savings on maintenance and replacements during the next years has not been counted yet.

Although LED lighting hold superb advantages compared to traditional lighting. The critical constraint to the wide adoption of LED lighting is still  the present relative high cost of LED lamps as the initial investment. Despite the fact the price is constantly going down, LED lamps are still expensive. Usually, a 3W LED globe bulb, replacement of a 25 watt incandescent, costs around $40. Despite the fact that LEDs are expensive, the initial cost will be paid back in long term, by saving utility and mantenance costs. The best value comes from commercial applications where maintenance and replacement costs are costly.

It is predicted that as the new improvements of LED technologies comming, there  will be progressively more LED light adoptions in residential lighting applications. In fact, LED technology has been explored and developed for several decades but only a few years ago, as the white light LEDs were developed, LED lighting began pratical for illumination. And in these short few years, a fast rising industry has being formed. This could also be a proof that LED lighting holds a very promising future. And this future won’t be long.

The Benefit of LED Tubes Replacement

Back to 3 or 4 years ago, if someone talked about LED tubes, we may probably have no idea what it is about. But now, when we look around, we could probably see that LED light tubes have become a very hot topic and have been becoming more and more popular year by year or even day by day. The traditional fluorescent lights are widely and typically used in different lighting applications such as industrial lighting, warehouse lighting, commercial lighting, office lighting and residential lighting etc. But nowadays, it seems the moment to consider about replacing them with LED light tubes.

LED or referred to as Light Emitting Diode is environment friendly as they generate light by the movement of electrons in the diode. Comparing with LED, florescent lights waste most of energy to produce heat which are definitely no good to our environment. A typical LED light tube may include hundreds of LEDs. The actual number of LEDs depends on the size of the tube or the illumination requirements.

There area a great deal of positive aspects that drive people to try and make use of tube LEDs. For example:

- Can you imagine how much heat a fluorescent tube light can produce? Have you heard about the complaint made by those people who have to sit or work underneath or near fluorescent tube lights – haven’t mentioned that some of them claimed to suffer from frequent head aches. Not like the conventional fluorescent lights LEDs will not produce much of heat and they would not cause people any head aches. LED lights can be installed wherever you want them to be, living rooms, bedrooms, halls, buses, trains, boats, cabinets, etc. And of course, you may have probably notice there are some Christmas lights and curtain lights that are made of LED lights.

- LED tubes consume 60-70% less energy when in comparison with the fluorescent tubes. Typically, a 20W fluorescent tube can be replaced by a 8-10W LED tube; a 40W fluorescent tube can be replace by a 15-18W LED tube; a 60W fluorescent tube can be replaced by a 24-26W tube LED. And please keep in mind that if taking the ballast and starter into account, the tube LEDs can save even more energy as unlike fluorescent tubes, LED light tubes do not need any ballast and starter.

- LED tubes are available in different sizes and colors (in a more technical way of description, it means color temperature). Currently, LED tubes follow the traditional design of traditional fluorescent tubes (T5, T10, T10, T12 etc). The reason for that is to allow direct replacement of the existing fluorescents without extra retrofit cost by replacing the whole lighting fitting. As a result, the commonly obtainable sizes of LED tubes (take T8 and T10 for example) are 2 feet (600mm), 3 feet (600mm), 4 feet (1200mm) and 5 feet (1500mm) and 8 feet (2400mm). Another advantage it should be looked at is the diverse colors that LED lights can produce. Back in the fluorescent tube ages, the light color of a fluorescent tube can not be chosen. But now, with LED fluorescent tubes, the light color can be cold white, pure white, natural white, warm white, red, green, blue, yellow etc, extremely flexible and user-friendly.

- LEDs have much longer lifespan when compared with other lights. Theoretically LEDs’ lifespan can be as long as 50,000 to 100,000 hours. Of course, when it comes to a lighting fixture, the lifespan is not only about the LEDs, but also related to all other electronic components of the lighting fixture. However, this is the way how LED tubes can help to save your maintenance bills for failed lights replacement.

Despite the fact that there is variety of advantage of LED tube replacement, consumers tend to concern about the downsides. Below would be some of the most concerned drawbacks of LED light tubes:

- One of the major problems (and probably the biggest one) that bother the consumers is its price. LED tube lights are much more costly when in comparison with the fluorescent tubes and incandescent bulbs. The market prices normally vary from $50 to $100. However, considering the LED tubes can work for an prolonged time, the cost is acceptable, especially to those commercial applications that need long-time running.

- Retrofit work could be another issue which is concerned, as you may need to reset the electrical configuration in order to let the tubes work properly. The conventional fluorescent tubes require ballasts and starters which are not needed for the LED tubes. Therefore, ballasts and starters will be removed when installing LED tubes. This means a little extra rewiring work.

To summarize, the pros of utilizing LED tubes are considerably much more when compared with its cons. Its worth to have a try of tube LED replacement.

The Japanese institutions Yano Economic Research Institute published a report in December 2010 that benefit from the measures taken by the Japanese government to increase public utilities, the overall lighting market in Japan this year (2010) was stimulated. It’s estimated the growth rate will be 2.7% which leads to a market of 7,420 billion yen in total. The growth rate in 2009 was 5.4% declined, the situation will be reversed in 2010. Since Japan has revised the energy saving regulations, the demand of LED lighting products has been driven dramatically. It is expected that LED lighting market in Japan will be surged by 95.2% (2010 to 2009).

Yano said, globe-type LED light bulbs, as the major LED-based lighting product, are mainly used to replace traditional incandescent light bulbs. But entering 2010, LED lighting products which are claimed to replace fluoresent lamps are starting to appear on the market (fluorescents dominates approximately 70% of Japan’s current market of overall lighting). Moreover, some large local enterprises start to undertake LED light tube market which was undertaken mainly by oversea enterprises in the past. Therefore, the LED lighting market in Japan is forecasted to be further expanded in the future.

Comparison of Several Typical Stuctures of LED T8 Tubes / T10 Tubes (Diagrams)

Probably, we’ve seen a lot of LED T8 Tubes in the market now or some of us may have carried out some projects that involved LED Tubes practically. So how about we take some time to look into some typical LED tubes by using some structure diagrams of LED tubes? I’d doubt that you have seen all of them before…

Take figure 01 and figure 03 for example, the typical structure of LED Tubes is: PC cover, LEDs, PCB, Heat sink and Driver(drivers do not show in these pictures).

PC cover: can be water-clear (transparent) and diffuse (milky).

LEDs: common LED type is SMD3528, some would be SMD5050, SMD3012 or SMD3014 etc.

Heat sink: typically aluminum but some may adopt PC (plastic) instead. Aluminum is good at rigidity and heat sinking while it significantly increases the weight of the tube.

LED makers in China plan to add numerous MOCVD systems in 2011

Mitsui and Unity Opto are to invest in Forepi, LED makers in China plan to add numerous MOCVD systems in 2011, Epistar is making a further investment in its China-based JV, and Tyntek is also expanding.

Mitsui and Unity Opto to invest in Forepi

Mitsui & Co., Ltd., a major Japan-based industrial conglomerate, is to become the largest shareholder in Taiwan-based LED wafer and chip maker Formosa Epitaxy Inc (Forepi). Mitsui will invest around NT$2.7 billion (approximately JPY7.6 billion) to acquire 15% of Forepi as part of an upcoming private placement of 90 million shares at a price of NT$36.44 per share.

Founded in 1999, Forepi is the second-largest LED epitaxy and chip manufacturer in Taiwan and has plants in Taoyuan, Taiwan and Yangshou, Jingu province, China. Mitsui says the deal is part of its aim to “create new value by consolidating the resources along the LED supply chain.” As well as having a network of shops selling LCD TVs and monitors, Mitsui has held a 16% stake in AOC International, one of the world’s leading monitor makers.

A Taiwan Economic News article says that, in addition to the Mitsui deal, Unity Opto Corp. will purchase 15.3 million shares in Forepi for an investment of US$18.6 million. Unity is a leading LED packager in Taiwan, and the deal will help to secure a steady source of LED chips for its backlight packages used in various applications, including TVs, computer monitors and tablet PCs. Also, the company has begun introducing LED packages for general lighting.

China LED makers to add MOCVD systems in 2011

China's LED industry is expected to install 700-800 MOCVD systems in 2011 compared with 330 units installed in 2010, according to a report on www.digitimes.com. This trend is likely to enable China's LED industry to catch up with Taiwan in terms of MOCVD production capacity.

The report also suggested that one China-based LED maker has given an order for somewhere between 400 and 500 MOCVD machines to Germany-based Aixtron. If this is true (Aixtron didn’t comment but its share price rose rapidly after the report came out) then delivery lead times will be greatly extended.

The report says that Sanan Optoelectronics is currently the largest LED-chip maker in China. The company apparently had a total of 40 MOCVD machines at the end of 2010 and will expand this to 100 units in 2011. The current second- and third-largest chip makers, Xiamen Changelight and Inspur Huaguang Optoelectronics, are expected to each have around 30 machines by the end of 2011.

Epistar invests further in China JV

Epistar Corp., Taiwan’s largest LED chipmaker, is to invest an additional US$19.5 million in United LED Shan Dong Corp, a joint venture established in mainland China with United Microelectronics Corp. This will push Epistar’s investment in the Chinese joint venture to a total of US$27.5 million, with its stakeholding increasing to 55 percent from 50 percent, according to an article in the Taipei Times.

The same article quoted an analyst company, which is forecasting that Epistar’s sales will grow by 25 percent to 30 percent year-on-year in 2011, after experiencing weakening demand and falling prices in the final quarter of 2010.

Tyntek expands in China and Taiwan

Taiwan-based LED maker Tyntek plans to invest CNY153 million (US$23 million) to set up an LED production joint venture with the Fuzhou government in China, according to an article on the Digitimes website. The first phase of development will focus on LED epitaxy and chip production, and around 30 MOCVD systems could be installed eventually. Production is scheduled to commence at the end of the third quarter at the earliest.

The article also says that Tyntek will install a further 10-15 MOCVD machines at its Taichung, Taiwan facility in the second and third quarters of 2011.

Taiwan LED Industry May Keep on Steady Growth in 2011

Taiwan Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) has recently predicted that the local LED industry will grow at a moderate pace in 2011.

According to PIDA , the output value of the global LED industry grew an increase of 68 percent from US$9 billion in 2009 to US$15.1 billion in 2010, and the number will further increase by 38 percent to US$20.8 billion in 2011.

Lu Shao-hsu, a PIDA analyst ,pointed out that Taiwan's output value of LED packaging and modules, which rose nearly 60 percent in 2010, is expected to increase only 24 percent in 2011 due to a higher base period comparison.

Deaphne Kuo, another PIDA analyst, also estimated that the global output value of large backlights, including applications for televisions and notebooks may approach US$7.3 billion in 2012 from an estimated US$2.98 billion in 2010.

Furthermore, based on technological improvements and the support of governments, LED lighting will become another factor driving the entire LED industry around the world, Kuo added.

Do you know broken energy-saving lamps harms?

Nowadays, energy-saving lamps are increasingly replacing the traditional incandescent light bulbs, and become the most environmentally friendly lighting choice. To achieve their emission reduction targets, the EU is to phase out traditional incandescent that has been used for 120 years. People are mandatory  to replace their low-efficiency light bulbs with energy-saving lamps. In the UK, compact fluorescent (CFL) is the most common energy-saving lamps. Germany, however, warns the public based on a new study: the mercury released by broken energy saving lamps will be a risk to health, especially for infants and young children and pregnant women. While, LED lights, traditional incandescents, and halogen light bulbs will not cause such problems when broken, because they do not contain mercury.

German Federal Environment Agency claimed that, according to the new research, the mercury toxity of broken energy-saving lamps can be 20 times excess of interior safty guidelines’ standards. GFEA’s Board Secretary said that the presence of mercury in CFL energy-saving lamps is a major defect, therefore, new technologies are need to be adopted as soon as possible to prevent mercury pollution.  The advantage of 80% energy saving and safty of CFLs ought to be synchronous development. A council spokesman said that children and pregnant women should stay away from broken CFLs. In those places with children and pregnant women activities, protection lampshades are suggested to be installed to prevent mercury release by broken energy-saving lamps.

However, the British government insisted that the mercury risks of energy-saving lamps is over-concerned. Broken CFL bulb mercury hazard in fact is some occasional cases, not a big deal. UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spokesman claimed that, the mercury containing in the CFL energy saving light bulbs is insufficient of harming the surrounding populations.

To illuminate the facades of buildings use special spotlights that are mounted on special brackets on the roof, walls, buildings and land.

In Russia and abroad produced many types of floodlights to illuminate the facades of buildings ranging from 35 to 2000 Watts. In the latest generation of projectors are commonly used halogen lamps and LEDs.

If you compare LED and halogen floodlights to illuminate building facades on the main characteristics, in many LEDs are absolute leaders. By quantity of light emitted by LEDs in the lead direction of the light radiation - halogen lamps lose up to 60% luminous flux. LEDs win for color purity and wide range of colors - up to 16 million colors (light filters halogen bulbs burn out quickly), ease of operation and energy savings (up to 6 times compared with halogen lamps). In addition, LEDs improve reliability and service life of lamps, as well as reduce maintenance costs (lifetime in continuous operation - 100 thousand hours).

With the help of a certain number of elements and various optical lenses LEDs allow you to create different projectors and lighting with the power required to illuminate the building. Modern control systems use light-emitting diode searchlights dynamic effects that are not available halogen lamps. The only drawback of LEDs - the high price and low unit capacity, ie for obtaining high luminous flux is required to use a large number of LEDs.

Over the past year or two, were first successful installation of LEDs in architectural lighting cities in Europe and the U.S. made the first attempts to use them in Moscow. In the city the use of LED lighting effectively, experts say that for private homes in the next few years this type of lighting would be dominant.
