Taiwan LED Industry May Keep on Steady Growth in 2011
Taiwan Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) has recently predicted that the local LED industry will grow at a moderate pace in 2011.
According to PIDA , the output value of the global LED industry grew an increase of 68 percent from US$9 billion in 2009 to US$15.1 billion in 2010, and the number will further increase by 38 percent to US$20.8 billion in 2011.
Lu Shao-hsu, a PIDA analyst ,pointed out that Taiwan's output value of LED packaging and modules, which rose nearly 60 percent in 2010, is expected to increase only 24 percent in 2011 due to a higher base period comparison.
Deaphne Kuo, another PIDA analyst, also estimated that the global output value of large backlights, including applications for televisions and notebooks may approach US$7.3 billion in 2012 from an estimated US$2.98 billion in 2010.
Furthermore, based on technological improvements and the support of governments, LED lighting will become another factor driving the entire LED industry around the world, Kuo added.

City of Foley Considers Retrofitting LED Lights
It's reported that City of Foley is thinking about updating some new light throughout the city by experimenting with Led technology.
On Monday, Bravo Zulu, a technology company specializing in communications and monitoring technology have given a presentation focused on the benefits led light technology could have for the city, and ways the technology could be implemented to the city council.
According to Bravo Zulu , one of the main benefits of its LED technology is an included sensor system, which detects motion to turn the lights on when cars or people are nearby and dims the lights, using less power when no one is nearby.
So far, no decision has been made regarding the placement of LED lights in Foley, but the council is considering the possibility.

LED Light Underware, Would You Put That ON?
If I asked you, what can led lights be used for? I’m sure you’ll know the “standard answer”, which would be “led lights can be used for lighting”. Yes, I can not say that you are wrong, but I’m afraid with this answer, you could probably get an B (maybe B+, if you are lucky enough), but you would not get an A from me. Wondering why?
I always believe that, imagination is the greatest gift for mankind. Great imagination creates great things.
In this article, let our brilliant designers lead you into a dream world. These talented designers would let you know that lights are not only for decoration of buildings but are also capable of decorating human bodies, lights are not only lights, they can be clothes too. The following are some LED light clothes.
So, what do you think now? Would you put those LED lights clothes on? Well, something shining on your body, I think they are kind of hot... don't you? :)

China May Come out the Restrictions to Phase out Incandescent Light Bulbs
After the EU, the US, Australia and others have imposed restrictions to phase out incandescent light bulbs, it's reported that China is in the process of making the road map for banning the use of these bulbs. The restriction is expected to be unveiled in March.
According to Wang Jinsui, director general of China Illuminating Engineering Society, said in China Business News," The National Development and Reform Commission has been drafting the map."
Wang said the initial plan is to stop producing 100-watt incandescent bulbs after 2015 and ban them completely from 2018. China has provided subsidies for using energy-saving light bulbs since 2008, prompting many incandescent bulb producers to cut their output.

Diagrams of Typical LED Spotlights: GU10
Continuing with our last post” Diagrams of Typical LED Light Bulbs: E26,E27” regarding globe E27 LED light bulbs, in this post, we will talk about GU10 LED spotlights.
GU10 spotlights have been commonly used in spotlighting applications. Traditional GU10 spotlights are halogen lamps. Typically, under current light efficiency of LEDs, 3W LEDs is equivalent to 20W halogen lamps, and 5W or 6W LEDs is equivalent to 40W halogen lamps in terms of lux. Here the picture shows a 4*1W GU10 LED spotlights. See Fg. GU10 LED Spotlights.
From the appearance point of view, GU10 LED spotlights and halogen spotlights look very similar. However, in fact, the difference between them is tremendous.
Light Source: light source is the essential difference between LED spotlights and halogen lamps, and that’s the reason why LED lights are much more efficient than halogen lamps. halogen lamps generate light by heating tungsten that covered by halogen gas, while for LEDs, simply describing, when current goes through LEDs, compounded particles in P-N junctions will then release photons (energy). LEDs generate less heat when emitting light, that’s the reason why LEDs are much more efficient than halogen lamps and incandescent bulbs.
Materials: materials are different, LED spotlights usually need aluminum heatsink for heat dissipation while halogen spotlights do not – their lamp bodies are usually made of plastic.
Driver: furthermore, LED spotlights need drivers (or transformers) in order to be running in existing GU10 fittings, normally 110V or 240V high-voltage fittings.
The picture below illustrates a typical GU10 LED spotlight exploded view. The spotlight is decomposed into 7 components as can be seen from the diagram. The following are the corresponding annotations.
More interesting stories about LED light bulbs, such as MR16, Par30 etc will be posted soon.

Materials: materials are different, LED Light bulbs usually adopt mist glass and aluminum, while incandecents usually adopt transparent glass and plastic. Reasons for that: LEDs emit very strong directional light (spot light), with transparent glass, the light would be too harsh to make people feel uncomfortable. Therefore, it needs diffusion treatment – defused lens.
Driver: furthermore, LED light bulbs need drivers (or transformers) in order to be running in 110V or 240V high-voltage fittings, while the traditional incandescent light bulbs do not.
